How often do we visit the places of our youth to walk the “Main Street“, reminiscing about where the movie theatre used to be, or the little corner store where we bought our penny candies? Or do we remember visiting or vacationing at a city or town that left us with a so many pleasant memories we can wait to visit again? We all have experienced this type of nostalgia at one time or another when visiting a town from our past. Artist Mary Burke is bringing these unique “Main Streets” to life, capturing these beautiful locations of previous generations and showcasing their importance in the modern era. Through Mary’s oil paintings you will catch a glimpse of the local history of the cities and towns throughout Ontario. In these images, she delicately captures the fancy brickwork, arched windows, and brightly coloured buildings of the local architecture. Her folk art style adds to the quaintness of these creations, and highlights her love for this bucolic area.
Like a painted “snap shot” in time, the boards are created on a variety of wood pieces with a varnish finish. If the towns pictured are no longer available another can be created. Do you have a favorite part of your hometown or maybe your childhood home or business, you’d like to see painted in living colour? It doesn’t have to be within Niagara! If you have the photos I can recreate them! Commissions are welcomed.
